Cathedral Park Project..................

On November 13, we had great success with the trapping in Cathedral Park. Currently, there are around 25 - 30 cats in the park and almost all of them are unaltered. Today our goal was to get up to ten of them altered.
The traps are set, tuna was set inside, and a heavy towel was placed on the outside of the trap. Once the cat steps in the trap, there is a weight sensitive release that closes the trap door behind them. Four males and four females were caught in traps in less than a half hour. We waited around a bit but the cats got wise to our traps so we packed up the eight cats that we had and took them home for the night. The next morning, we took the cats out to a spay and neuter clinic organized by Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO). They plan and staff spay/neuter clinics every month. Today they altered 121 cats. It is an amazing operation set up solely by volunteers, and is a great resource for the feral colony caretakers. To learn more about FCCO and the services that they provide to our community please visit their site.

Once our cats were altered, we picked them up from the clinic and took them back home to recuperate. On Monday, November 15th, the males will be released back into the Park, and the females can go home the following day.

Thanks to all the volunteers for your help on this project!

TNR (Trap Neuter Release) is the best way to control the feral cat population. To learn more about helping the feral cat colonies in your neck of the woods, visit Alley Cat Allies.
POPB would be willing to make this a month event in conjunction with FCCO's spay/neuter clinics. If you are interested in helping make this happen please contact us.
