POPPA Project..................

It was a cold and wet day, but we had fun! Recycled Gardens is a nursery that is the fund-raising arm of POPPA (Pet Over-Population Prevention Advocates). Recycled Gardens had requested POPB's help with erecting two signs and building bins for their hardscape (landscaping rocks & bricks).

One group of POPB volunteers dug post holes, poured concrete and erected the signs which are visible from the main road traveling in both directions. The other group of volunteers disassembled three raised beds and reassembled the beds in a new area for the hardscape. The whole gang then pitched in and moved two piles of rocks into the newly created bins. Finally, above and beyond the original project, one volunteer helped tear down an old workshed to make extra room for the new season’s grasses and plants.

We all learned a lot while we were there. This is POPPA’s 4th year of operations, and in the next few months will be celebrating the spay/neuter of their 10,000th animal! For you math majors out there, that's a WHOLE lot of surplus litters avoided. (think exponential growth)

If you're looking for plants for your garden, check out Recycled Gardens. They've got great deals and you would be supporting a wonderful cause. Proceeds from all sales are used to fund spay and neuter operations; directly reducing the number of homeless animals in our community.

FYI The month of March is “Tom and Mom Cat Special” at POPPA. During March, low-income households can bring in cats to their local clinic to be spayed/neutered for only $10 each! Just call POPPA for a referral - 503-626-4070 ext 2#
